Seniors Fitness in Langley
Stay Active, Strong & Independent
Aging does not mean slowing down. Our seniors fitness program helps older adults in Langley build real strength, improve balance, and stay independent, so you can keep doing the things you love for as long as possible in your own home and community.
What Is Seniors Fitness?
Seniors fitness is a specialized approach to exercise designed specifically for older adults. It is not about heavy lifting, high-intensity intervals, or pushing through pain. It is about building and maintaining the physical capacity you need to live your life fully: carrying groceries, playing with grandchildren, walking confidently, getting up from a chair without assistance, and staying active in the activities you love.
How Our Seniors Fitness Program Works at Kenaz
At Kenaz Training, our seniors fitness program is:
- Led by registered kinesiologists and personal trainers with extensive experience working with older adults
- Delivered in our private, appointment-only facility — no crowded gym floors, no loud music, and no pressure

Your program may include:
- Strength training
- Balance work

- Cardiovascular conditioning
- Practical nutrition guidance that supports healthy aging

Why Our Seniors Fitness Program Is Different
- Private, appointment-only facility. No crowds, no waiting, no gym anxiety. Every session is one-on-one in a space designed for focused, supported work.
- Led by registered kinesiologists and certified trainers. University-trained professionals who understand how the aging body moves, adapts, and responds to exercise.
- Every program built from a full assessment. We never hand you a template. We learn how you move, what limits you, and what matters to you before we write a single exercise.
- We coordinate with your care team. If you see a physio, specialist, or GP, we communicate and stay within their guidelines. Nothing falls through the cracks.
- We adapt when life happens. A flare-up, a bad week, a new diagnosis. Your program changes with you, not against you.
Who Is Seniors Fitness For?
Our seniors fitness program is designed for older adults at every level of ability. You do not need to be active or experienced to begin. If any of the following describe you, this program was built with you in mind.
Active Older Adults
You enjoy staying active but want professional guidance to train safely, avoid injury, and get more out of your exercise routine. Our trainers ensure your program is effective and appropriate for your body.
Managing Health Conditions
Living with arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease, or other chronic conditions does not mean you cannot exercise. Appropriate, professionally guided movement can significantly improve how you feel and function day to day.
Concerned About Falls
If you have experienced a fall, are worried about falling, or have noticed your balance declining, targeted training can dramatically reduce your risk and rebuild your confidence on your feet.
Post-Rehab & Recovery
If you have recently completed physiotherapy or rehabilitation after a surgery, fracture, or health event, our program provides the next step, a safe, supervised transition back to full activity and independence.
New to Exercise
You have never been a “gym person” and that is completely fine. Our private facility and one-on-one format mean there is no intimidation, no judgment, and no keeping up with anyone else. We start where you are.
Wanting to Stay Independent
Your goal is simple: stay independent for as long as possible. You want to keep driving, keep gardening, keep travelling, and keep doing the things that make life worth living. Seniors fitness training is how you protect that independence.

Benefits of Seniors Fitness Training
Most of our clients over 60 come in thinking they've left it too late. They haven't. With the right kind of exercise, here's what they tell us changes first.
Improved Balance & Fall Prevention
Targeted balance and coordination exercises strengthen the stabilizing muscles and neural pathways that keep you steady on your feet, significantly reducing your risk of falling.
For you, that might mean walking across the parking lot without gripping your partner's arm.
Greater Strength & Bone Density
Resistance training builds and maintains muscle mass and bone density, counteracting the natural age-related decline that leads to frailty, fractures, and loss of function.
In real life, that looks like lifting your grandchild without worrying your back will go out.
Better Mobility & Flexibility
Gentle stretching and mobility work restore range of motion, reduce stiffness, and make everyday movements like reaching, bending, and turning easier and more comfortable.
Practically, that might be putting on your socks in the morning without sitting on the edge of the bed.
Pain Reduction
Many seniors experience chronic pain from arthritis, back problems, or old injuries. Appropriate exercise strengthens supporting muscles, improves joint health, and often reduces pain more effectively than rest alone.
For a lot of clients, that means waking up with less stiffness and getting through the day with less discomfort.
Sharper Mind & Better Mood
Regular physical activity improves blood flow to the brain, supports cognitive function, reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety, and promotes better sleep quality.
In practice, that often shows up as sleeping better, feeling less flat, and having more energy by mid-morning.
Maintained Independence
The ability to get dressed, climb stairs, carry bags, and get in and out of a car are all functions that require strength, balance, and mobility. Seniors fitness training preserves and improves these essential capacities.
For most of our clients, that is the goal that matters most: still doing things your own way, on your own schedule, in your own home.
Our Approach to Seniors Fitness
At Kenaz Training, we do not believe in one-size-fits-all programs. Every body is different, every health history is unique, and every person has their own goals and concerns.
1. Comprehensive Assessment
Your program begins with a thorough conversation and movement screen conducted by a registered kinesiologist or experienced trainer. When appropriate, we may use tools like the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) to understand exactly how you move and where your specific limitations are. This gives us what we need to build a program around your body, not a template.
2. Personalized Programming
Based on your assessment, we design a program that addresses your specific needs and goals. Whether the priority is fall prevention, pain management, post-surgical recovery, or general conditioning, every exercise is selected with purpose and tailored to your ability level.
3. One-on-One Supervised Sessions
Every session is conducted one-on-one with your trainer in our private facility. Your trainer monitors your form, adjusts intensity in real time, and ensures every movement is performed safely. You are never left to figure things out on your own.
4. Progressive & Adaptive
As your strength, balance, and confidence improve, your program evolves with you. We progress gradually and celebrate every milestone. On days when you feel less than your best, we adapt accordingly. The goal is always consistency over intensity.

Frequently Asked Questions About Seniors Fitness
Questions we hear most from older adults and their families before getting started.
Yes, and exercise is one of the most recommended interventions for arthritis, osteoporosis, and chronic joint pain. The key is appropriate programming. We design around your specific joints, your pain levels, and what your care team has cleared you for. Nothing is rushed, and we adjust in real time if something does not feel right. Many of our most consistent clients came to us managing significant joint pain and now move with far more ease than when they started.
A session is one-on-one with your trainer in our private facility, usually 45 to 60 minutes. It will include a warm-up, then a mix of exercises specific to your goals, whether that is balance and fall prevention, strength building, mobility, or functional movement practice. Your trainer monitors your form throughout and adjusts intensity based on how you feel that day. There is no group class, no keeping up with anyone else, and no pressure. Just you, your trainer, and focused work on what matters most to you.
Falls are one of the leading causes of injury in older adults, and structured exercise is one of the most evidence-supported ways to reduce that risk. We target the specific physical qualities that reduce fall risk: lower body strength, core stability, balance and coordination, and reaction time. You also learn to move with more body awareness, which reduces the chance of losing your footing in everyday situations. Many clients notice improved confidence on uneven surfaces, stairs, and in low-light conditions within the first few weeks.
None at all. Many of our senior clients have never set foot in a gym and that is completely fine. We start with a full assessment to understand where you are right now, then build from there. Every exercise is introduced gradually with clear instruction and hands-on guidance. Our private, appointment-only facility means there is no intimidation factor, no crowds, and no comparing yourself to anyone else.
No referral is required to book a consult or begin a program. If you have a specific condition your doctor is managing, it is helpful to bring any relevant notes or clearances so we can coordinate with your care team. If your doctor has told you to get more active but has not told you exactly what is safe, that is exactly what the free consult is for. We will help you figure out the right starting point.
No. Physiotherapy and kinesiology serve different and complementary roles. Physiotherapists diagnose and treat injuries and conditions, often using manual therapy and clinical assessment. Our kinesiologists specialize in exercise-based strength building, functional movement, and long-term conditioning. Many of our senior clients work with both a physio and a Kenaz trainer, and we coordinate with their physio throughout. If you are still in the clinical phase of recovery, physiotherapy may be the right first step before transitioning to our program.
There is no fixed program length. Some clients come in for a specific goal, like recovering from a hip replacement or improving their balance before a trip. Others become long-term clients who train with us for years because they see the value of ongoing support. Most clients notice meaningful improvements in how they feel and function within four to eight weeks of consistent training. We will give you a realistic picture of what to expect for your specific situation at your assessment.
If your current limitations are related to a motor vehicle accident, ICBC active rehab may be the right place to start. ICBC typically pre-approves up to 12 active rehab sessions in the first 12 weeks after the accident date, and for those covered sessions we bill ICBC directly, so in most cases there is no upfront cost to you. At your consult we will help you figure out whether ICBC active rehab or seniors fitness is the right fit, and what your claim is likely to cover.
What Your First Month Looks Like
Here is exactly what happens from the day you book to the end of your first month.
Week 1 — Assessment & Starting Point
Your first session is a full assessment with a registered kinesiologist or experienced trainer. We learn how you move, where your limitations are, and what matters most to you. No pressure, no rushing, no generic template. Everything we build comes from this conversation.
Weeks 1–2 — Building the Foundation
We introduce movements that are safe, purposeful, and matched exactly to your ability. Most clients notice improved ease of movement and energy within the first two weeks, before strength changes are even measurable.
Weeks 3–4 — Adjusting and Progressing
We review what is working and what needs adjusting. Your program evolves based on real feedback from your sessions. By week four, most clients have a clear sense of what consistent, appropriate exercise feels like for their specific body.
After Month 1 — The Long Game
The goal is never dependency on a trainer. We build toward you being stronger, more confident, and more capable in the things that matter to you. Some clients stay for ongoing support. Others reach their goal and graduate. Either way, you leave with real strength, not just a program that expires.
What You Can Expect Working With Us
- No pressure. The free consult is a conversation. We ask about your goals, your health history, and what you have tried before. If we are not the right fit, we will tell you honestly.
- No intimidation. Our facility is private and appointment-only. No crowds, no loud music, no keeping up with anyone else. Just you and your trainer, working at your pace.
- No cookie-cutter programs. Every program is built around your specific body, health history, and goals. Nothing random, nothing generic.
- Clear explanations. Your trainer will tell you why each exercise matters for your goals, not just what to do. You will understand your own body better after month one.
- Adjustments when life happens. A flare-up, a rough week, a new concern from your doctor. We adapt. You are not failing the program if the program needs to change.
- Coordination with your care team. If you work with a physio, doctor, or specialist, we communicate and stay within our scope. Your whole health picture matters, not just what happens in our sessions.
If your first session is not what you expected, tell us. We will adjust. We have been doing this for over a decade and we back our work.
