What Is Kinesiology?

For many of our Surrey clients, kinesiology is the bridge between “I finished physio” and “I actually trust my body again.”

Kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement. A kinesiologist is a movement specialist. Where a physiotherapist focuses on diagnosis and hands-on treatment, a kinesiologist focuses on what happens next: building the strength, stability, and movement patterns your body needs to stay better.

Our kinesiologists hold a Bachelor of Human Kinetics (BHK) and are registered members of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK). They assess how you move, identify what's contributing to pain or limitation, and design a progressive exercise program built for your body.

Kinesiology works well on its own and works well alongside your physiotherapist, chiropractor, or family doctor. A lot of our clients come to us after finishing clinical care because they want a structured plan to keep improving. Read more: Kinesiology vs. Physiotherapy: What's the Difference?

  • Science-backed movement assessment and analysis
  • Personalized exercise prescription for your specific needs
  • Active, exercise-based approach with tools you can use between appointments
  • Works alongside your healthcare team: doctors, physiotherapists, chiropractors
  • Applicable to rehabilitation, chronic conditions, injury prevention, and performance

Who Is Kinesiology for Surrey Clients?

Kinesiology is a good fit if any of these sound like you:

Injury Recovery: You finished physio but still don't feel right

People in Surrey recovering from sports injuries, workplace injuries, motor vehicle accidents, or surgeries who need a structured, progressive exercise program to regain function. Your clinical care is done. You are not in crisis, but you are not back to normal either. A kinesiologist builds the progressive program that takes you the rest of the way.

Chronic Pain: You have been managing a condition and are nervous to push yourself

Individuals living with persistent pain conditions such as back pain, fibromyalgia, or arthritis who want to improve their quality of life through movement based strategies. You want to move more but you are not sure what is safe. We assess where you are and build from there, carefully.

Post Surgical Rehabilitation: You had surgery and need more than the basic exercises

Clients recovering from joint replacements, ACL reconstructions, rotator cuff repairs, or spinal surgeries who need guided, progressive rehabilitation. You need a structured program that gets you from post op to doing the things you actually care about.

ICBC and Motor Vehicle Accidents: You were in a car accident

We are ICBC approved. ICBC typically pre-approves up to 12 active rehab sessions in the first 12 weeks after your accident date. In many cases there is no out-of-pocket cost for those sessions. We handle the paperwork and build a program around your injuries, your claim, and your recovery pace.

Seniors and Older Adults: You want to stay strong and independent as you age

Older adults who want to maintain independence, improve balance, prevent falls, and stay active and healthy as they age. Balance, fall prevention, and strength for daily life. We work with older adults who want to stay active and keep doing what matters to them.

Athletes and Active Individuals: You are active and keep running into the same injuries

Athletes looking to optimize performance, correct movement imbalances, prevent injury, and improve sport specific strength and conditioning. Athletes and active individuals who want to fix movement problems before they become bigger ones.

How Our Kinesiology Program Works for Surrey Clients

Most Surrey clients pair their sessions with a Highway 1 or Fraser Highway commute they're already making. Wherever you start from, the program runs the same proven arc:

Step 1: Free Consultation

We start with a conversation. Tell us what's going on, what you've tried, and what you want to get back to. No obligation. Whether you work with us or not, we'll point you in the right direction.

Step 2: Comprehensive Movement Assessment

Your kinesiologist evaluates your movement patterns, range of motion, strength, posture, and balance. This is the part that makes the difference. We're looking for what is driving the problem, not just treating the area that hurts.

Step 3: Your Personalized Program

Based on the assessment, we build a program for your body and your goals. Every exercise is chosen with purpose. Nothing is guesswork and nothing is generic.

Step 4: One-on-One Sessions with Progress Tracking

Each session is private, with your kinesiologist. You get hands-on coaching, form correction, and regular re-assessment so your program keeps up with your progress. You'll also get a home exercise program so you stay on track between sessions.

What Your First Month Looks Like

Here is exactly what happens from the moment you book to the end of your first month.

Week 1: Your Assessment

Your first session is a full movement assessment. Your kinesiologist evaluates how you move, where you compensate, your strength, posture, and range of motion. We ask about your history, your pain, and what you want to get back to. We do not guess or assume; we test and listen first.

Weeks 1-2: Building the Foundation

Your program begins. Every exercise is chosen for a reason. For many clients this means relearning how to move without the patterns that contributed to the problem. Sessions are typically 1-2 times per week depending on your condition and goals.

Weeks 3-4: Progress Starts Showing

Most clients notice real changes by the end of month one: less pain, more confidence moving, and daily tasks feeling easier. We reassess to measure exactly where you have improved and adjust what comes next.

After Month 1: The Long Game

Your program evolves as you do. Some clients reach their initial goal and transition to independent training. Others continue toward bigger targets. No pressure to commit to a length upfront.

Kinesiology: Frequently Asked Questions

What You Can Expect Working With Us

  • No pressure. The free consult is a conversation, not a sales pitch. If we are not the right fit or we believe another provider is a better starting point, we will tell you.
  • No generic programs. Every plan is built from a proper movement assessment, not a template. Two people with the same diagnosis get different programs.
  • Clear explanations. Your kinesiologist will explain every exercise, why you are doing it, and what to expect as you progress. You are never left guessing.
  • Adjustments when needed. If something is not working or your condition changes, we adapt. You are not locked into a plan that no longer fits.
  • Coordination with your care team. We work alongside your physiotherapist, physician, or specialist, not in isolation. Your full picture matters.

If your first session is not what you expected, tell us and we will make it right by adjusting your plan, clarifying expectations, or helping you find a better-fit option. We have been doing this work for over a decade and we stand behind the care we provide.
