What Is Kinesiology?
For a lot of people in Maple Ridge, kinesiology is the missing piece between “discharged from physio” and “actually back to normal.”
A kinesiologist is a movement specialist. Physiotherapy and kinesiology often work as a team, with physiotherapists focused on assessment and treatment and kinesiologists focused on movement assessment and progressive exercise programming. Together, they can support your recovery, whether that means getting back to daily life, work, sport, or training.
Our kinesiologists hold university degrees in kinesiology, human kinetics, or exercise science, depending on their program, and are registered with BCAK. Every program starts with a real look at how you move: what's limiting you, what's compensating, and where to begin.
Kinesiology holds up well as a standalone service, and it works well paired with your physiotherapist, chiropractor, or family doctor too. Some people come to us after their clinical care has wrapped up and want a structured plan to keep building. Others work with a kinesiologist alongside ongoing care elsewhere. For more on how the two roles differ: Kinesiology vs. Physiotherapy: What's the Difference?
- A real movement assessment before anything gets prescribed
- An exercise program shaped around your specific limitation, not a generic handout
- Guided, exercise-based rehab with practical work between sessions
- Designed to work alongside your doctor, physio, or chiropractor when appropriate
- Useful for rehab, chronic conditions, injury prevention, and performance training
Who Is Kinesiology for Maple Ridge Clients?
Kinesiology is a good fit if any of these sound like you:
Injury Recovery: You finished physio but still don't feel right
Your surgeon or physio cleared you, but "cleared" and "back to normal" aren't the same thing. This is where kinesiology picks up: a structured, progressive program for Maple Ridge clients who are past the acute stage but still not where they want to be.
Chronic Pain: You have been managing a condition and are nervous to push yourself
Living with back pain, fibromyalgia, or arthritis often means wanting to move more but not trusting your body enough to try. We begin with a clear picture of where things stand right now, then build up in small, careful steps.
Post Surgical Rehabilitation: You had surgery and need more than the basic exercises
A discharge sheet of exercises gets you moving again. It doesn't get you all the way back. Whether it is a joint replacement, ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, or spinal surgery, we build a guided program around your recovery goals and the activities you want to return to.
ICBC and Motor Vehicle Accidents: You were in a car accident
We're an ICBC-approved provider for active rehab. A doctor's referral isn't required to access this initial 12-week treatment period; you may be eligible for up to 12 pre-approved kinesiology sessions, and you'll want your ICBC claim number and Personal Health Number on hand. We can explain what applies to your claim and help coordinate approved direct billing.
Seniors and Older Adults: You want to stay strong and independent as you age
Independence as you age comes down to a few specific things: balance, leg strength, and trusting your own footing. We build that with you, one step at a time, starting from wherever you're at today, for Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows clients who want to stay in charge of their own daily life.
Athletes and Active Individuals: You are active and keep running into the same injuries
Recurring strains and tweaks usually have more than one contributing factor, not just bad luck. We assess your movement to find what's actually involved, then build your program around it.

How Our Kinesiology Program Works for Maple Ridge Clients
Most of our Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows clients book one or two sessions a week and build the trip around the bridge. The program itself runs the same proven arc no matter where you drive in from:
Step 1: Free Consultation
No forms to fill out ahead of time. Just a real conversation about where things stand, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping to get back to. If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you plainly.
Step 2: Comprehensive Movement Assessment
This is where the real information comes from. Your kinesiologist checks your range of motion, strength, posture, and balance, not just the spot that's bothering you. What's actually connected to your issue is often somewhere you wouldn't expect.
Step 3: Your Personalized Program
Everything from your assessment feeds directly into your program. Each exercise is there for a specific reason. Nobody gets handed a template.
Step 4: One-on-One Sessions with Progress Tracking
Every session is one-on-one with your kinesiologist: coaching, form checks, and regular re-assessment to keep your program matched to how you're actually doing. You'll also leave with a home program so progress doesn't stall between visits.
What Your First Month Looks Like
Here is exactly what happens from the moment you book to the end of your first month.
Week 1: Your Assessment
Nothing gets prescribed at your first visit. It's assessment only: how you move, where you're compensating, your strength and range of motion. We ask questions and listen before writing a single exercise.
Weeks 1-2: Building the Foundation
From here, your program takes shape. Early sessions focus on learning movements that support your recovery and building confidence with the exercises in your program. Session frequency depends on your condition, goals, schedule, and available coverage.
Weeks 3-4: Progress Starts Showing
By the end of month one, we reassess your movement, strength, and how you're feeling day to day, then use that to decide what the next phase looks like.
After Month 1: The Long Game
Your program keeps adapting from here. Some clients hit their original target and move to training on their own. Others keep chasing a bigger target. There's no upfront commitment to a set length.

Who We Help with Kinesiology
Most of our Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows kinesiology clients come to us with one of these problems:
Back & Neck Pain
Herniated discs, sciatica, chronic low back pain, cervical pain, and postural strain from long hours at a desk: we work on core stability and progressive loading, built around what's actually behind your pain.
Shoulder Injuries
Rotator cuff tears, frozen shoulder, impingement, post-surgical shoulders: range of motion comes first, then we layer strength back in around it.
Knee & Hip Conditions
ACL and MCL injuries, meniscus tears, patellofemoral pain, hip bursitis, joint replacements: we build strength and stability back into the joint with a progressive, evidence-based plan.
Arthritis and Joint Conditions
Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other degenerative joint conditions can be supported through the right kind of movement, worked within what your joints can actually handle, alongside your medical care.
Motor Vehicle Accident Injuries
Whiplash, soft tissue injuries, and post-concussion symptoms: we build an ICBC-approved active rehab program around your specific injuries. You may be eligible for up to 12 pre-approved sessions during the initial 12-week period, and we can explain what applies to your claim.
Workplace & Repetitive Strain Injuries
Carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, chronic low back strain tied to your job: we build the program around what your work actually demands so you can get back to it.
Chronic Pain & Fibromyalgia
A generic plan rarely works for persistent pain; it needs a careful, individualized pace. We use graded exercise, adjusted to what your body can tolerate on a given day, to work toward better day-to-day function.
Neurological Conditions
Stroke recovery, MS, Parkinson's, and other neurological conditions: we design movement-based programs to support mobility, coordination, and balance, working in step with your medical team.
Sports Injuries
Sprains, strains, tendinopathies, overuse injuries: we work on the injury itself and the movement patterns and contributing factors involved.

What You Can Expect Working With Us
- No pressure. The free consult is a conversation, not a sales pitch. If we are not the right fit or we believe another provider is a better starting point, we will tell you.
- No generic programs. Every plan is built from a proper movement assessment, not a template. Two people with the same diagnosis get different programs.
- Clear explanations. Your kinesiologist will explain every exercise, why you are doing it, and what to expect as you progress. You are never left guessing.
- Adjustments when needed. If something is not working or your condition changes, we adapt. You are not locked into a plan that no longer fits.
- Coordination with your care team. We work alongside your physiotherapist, physician, or specialist, not in isolation. Your full picture matters.
If your first session is not what you expected, tell us and we will make it right by adjusting your plan, clarifying expectations, or helping you find a better-fit option. We have been doing this work for over a decade and we stand behind the care we provide.
